I completely disagree.

TL/DR: A personalized ad experience is a modern luxury. For me to receive non-relevant ads gives me as a user a bad experience.

Example one: When I go to Amazon they suggest books for me since they know what books I’ve read. That experience is different than when my significant other goes to Amazon. Her interests are different than mine so we should receive different ads.

Example two: Let’s also talk about YouTube. I usually watch very specific channels, but when I branch out it’s usually because auto-play is on and takes me to another channel/video that is relevant. After years of watching my own YouTube experience and being perfectly satisfied I hear about this guy by the name of MrBeast. This is maybe a month ago? I came across him because of his LEGO building video. This is someone who has as many followers as Taylor Swift and I had never crossed paths with any of his videos before because none of them are relevant. YouTube knows what I like and makes wonderful suggestions. I was at a zoom party and I mentioned I came across a new YouTube channel; about half of my friends watch Mr Beast and the other half had no idea who this person is.

Think about though the poor experience I could have though if I didn’t have relevant books to read or videos to watch? I would maybe ask my friends who I should check out, but then even the suggestions from my friends may not keep me entertained because after watching many Mr Beast videos, only one has been entertaining, and YouTube suggested it to me.
